What have I learned in the last five years as I tried to figure out what I want to do with the next five to ten years of my life?
Even though I have a hearing impairment, I enjoy listening to people and their stories. I’m not the best listener, but I am truly interested in what you have to say.
What are your stories, history, and values? Not just what you believe, but why you believe what you believe? How were you formed and shaped into yourself?
Years ago, my father, brother, and I used to work in media production. LionHawk Communications was our production company. When our father passed away in 2011, my brother and I retired from the industry to take care of our mother and live a quiet life.
Fourteen years later, I started getting back into showbiz by first starting two podcasts after writing a book. Then it led to revamping the old LionHawk website to offer Legacy Keepsakes services.
Other than building websites, I’m not the technical genius my brother is. I can’t do audio/video editing or graphic design. But what I can do, I discovered doing two podcasts, is listen.
And I would like to listen to you. Your journey in life, your victories, your regrets, your dreams, and your values. Who are you? Why are you the you, YOU ARE today?
I want to be a better listener than I am now. Life is very much about learning by doing.
Listening to you is one of the more meaningful ways I would like to serve.
I happened to find an interesting book on how to really know people, “How To Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen” by David Brooks.
While I’ve been doing my podcasts, I’ve been trying to find books and articles on how to interview people. But most of the search results were about job interviews, not podcasts or radio/TV shows. So I wrote my own article on my research. I didn’t find this book until after I wrote that article.
This book is so very helpful and encouraging about really getting to know people. The theme of the book is learning how to truly understand by listening.
I want to be a good listener like my mother is. I want to talk to interesting people, like you.
