What kind of questions will be asked?
Up to 8 – 16 questions will range from prompting interviewee to sharing stories and experiences of their past to their values, learned lessons and perspective on the change in culture over their lifetime.
Interviewees will receive the sample questions after the purchase and well before their Keepsake Interview. Those questions will be what we aim to ask. Sometimes, due to the organic nature of the interview, follow-up questions might be asked on something the interviewee talked about in addition or instead of some of those questions.
How will this be different from, and better than, something I can write down or record on my own?
It depends on your soft and hard skills of interviewing, the tools you have access to, and your budget. Am I the right person to interview you or your loved one? Maybe or maybe not. I’m not here to do a hard sell on using LionHawk Legacy Keepsake services.
What I do offer is my 9 years as a co-producer on a radio show, my own interview experience as a podcaster and my 30+ years in media production. I have a paid Streamyard account that allows me to spruce up a dull video recording into something a little more classy.
You can use Streamyard’s free account and have their duck logo in your legacy interview or pay for your own account, which is at least a few hundred dollars for the year. Which might just be a waste of your money if you don’t actually create that legacy interview or use it for something more. There are other recording options I’m glad to tell you about if you email me. I’m not going to hoard info to get you to buy my services.
The range of services for legacy interviews ranges from $300 – $5,000. I’m at the mid to low end because I don’t offer video editing or an on-location camera & sound crew. I do try to give value for your money by giving interviewees three file types: audio, video, and transcript files. From my research, competitors only give you an audio OR a video file. Maybe a flash drive or DVD with your video on it.
If you or your loved one has health issues, is seriously uncomfortable on camera, or maybe has a significant hearing or vision loss, definitely pursue writing down their answers to our List of Questions, or their own Ethical Will will be a much more pleasant endeavor for them. Attempting to record an audio &/or video recording might just make it challenging and stressful for them. Sharing their life and wisdom should be a heartening and enjoyable experience. Your relationship matters more than creating a Keepsake Interview.
If you do decide to pursue recording your own Keepsake Interview, feel free to check out this article on How to Interview Someone for a Podcast or Keepsake Interview.
What to Expect
Pre-Production
- You’ll receive a confirmation email of your purchase.
- A second email will be sent with a scheduling link to schedule your interview (or the guest’s interview).
- In that same second email, you’ll also be sent a link to pre-interview questions. Please have the guest fill out this online form. Guests may receive assistance as needed.
- You will receive a reminder email before the recording. If you need to reschedule, there will be links in the email on how to do so.
Recording Date
- The day of the recording, we will spend 15 – 30 minutes meeting each other, doing housekeeping, and clarifying anything before we record.
- We will record up to 1-2 hours, depending on the Legacy Keepsake you purchased.
- During the interview, you’ll be asked spontaneous questions spurred by your answers. They will be to follow up or go more in-depth on something you mentioned.
- At the end when we end the recording, please stay online until the Streamyard software has uploaded your local recording. Once we verify that the file has been uploaded, we can both disconnect.
Wrapping Up
Within 3 days of finishing the recording, the file will be trimmed at the front and back end, rendered and the AI transcript will be created. If you have opted for the Human-proofed Transcript service, it might take another day or two to process.
All 3 file types, (Audio, Video and Word Documents) will be emailed to you via a File Transfer Service.
You must download the files onto your computer within the time limit of the Email Transfer Service, or you will lose the files. If there are any technical difficulties, please contact us as soon as possible, and we will try to assist you in getting your files.
If the guest decided to go over the allotted time limit for the interview, please pay for the Additional Time (whether that is 30 minutes or 1 Hour). Once the additional services have been purchased, your files will be sent to you.

Technical Information:
We record using software similar to Zoom, called Streamyard. It’s a browser-based software that is very easy to use for novices. To learn more about Streamyard, feel free to follow the link to their Guest Instructions before your recording.
Recorded Live – No Editing Included
Please be advised that there is no editing included in the recording services. We do have the capability to pause the recording should the guest need a quick break. But there is no editing available. Clients may take the audio and/or video files and edit them themselves or hire an editor. We do have the capability to trim the front and end; that is all.
Video Quality Options
Unless otherwise requested, we will record the video in 720p. If you wish the video quality to be higher than 720p, please request it during the sign-up process. We can record up to 4K if wanted or needed. No YouTube link will be provided for the higher video quality. Clients are required to render a lower video file size from the original provided to upload to YouTube or another video social media platform.

Technical Requirements:
Guests must have broadband internet and a computer with a webcam or a smartphone/tablet with a good camera and mic. If using a smartphone or tablet, you must use a phone or tablet stand. It is helpful to make sure the guest’s room is quiet and there won’t be any distractions during the interview/recording.
Some Guests prefer to have a headset with a microphone on it to record with.
Apple iPad or iPhone
Guests do not need to download the Streamyard app unless they are on an Apple iPad or iPhone. If you don’t want to use the app, you can also join the studio directly from the Safari browser.
If you’re on iOS 14.2, we recommend updating your device before joining. iOS 14.2 has some issues with audio stuttering.
No Location Video Shoots
We do not currently provide a camera & sound crew to do location video recordings. If you need help looking for video professionals, feel free to contact me, and I can refer a few that I’m aware of that you can research and contact as you wish.
If you are a video professional and wish to be included in future referrals, please contact me and let’s get to know each other.
